4 reasons to have an annual multi-trip insurance policy

Being passionate about extreme sports and culture, I travel very often. In the beginning, my knowledge of annual insurance policy or single-trip insurance policy was very limited. I then told myself that maybe there are still many of us who don’t know it. So, to help you choose the right travel insurance for you, I will try to share with you the experience I have gained over these many years. The goal is to make as many trips as possible while spending a minimum of money.

Trip cancellation insurance could, according to the insurer, apply in cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

What if you opted for the annual multi-trip policy?

It is true that I am far from being a specialist when it comes to travel insurance, and I have often wondered which travel policy should I take, single or multiple? Last March, I was able to speak with a certified travel insurance advisor for my trip to Congo. I discovered this Canadian insurance company almost a year ago and for many months now, I have always been using Assur360.

When Assur360 asked me over the phone if I wanted a single-trip policy or the annual multi-trip policy, I must admit that I didn’t know what to answer. This question had never crossed my mind.

When I started traveling, I limited myself to one trip per year, with a fairly long stay. Now, I have the privilege of sharing my passions with the readers of my blog. Thus, today, I travel much more often and for shorter periods of time in order to better vary the pleasures and not to get bored. It is now clear that there is a big difference between single and multiple trips.

Travel insurance

1. Save money with multi-trip insurance

At first, I thought that an annual multi-trip policy must cost an arm and a leg. And yet, if like me you like to travel, there are several advantages to opting for this policy. My broker showed me that the annual multi-trip policy saved me the most, if I traveled more than 2 times a year.

As I travel 4 to 5 times a year, for a period of 15 to 30 days for each of them, it turns out that the choice of multiple trips is the most advantageous for me. In addition, I often go on short getaways of a few days in the United States or other provinces of Canada. And now I don’t have to worry about insurance anymore because the annual multi-trip policy already covers me.

It should be noted that a year is not necessarily from January 1st to December 31st. The multi-trip policy starts on the date of your next trip.

2. You will be insured for the duration of your stay

As for the annual duration of your coverage, whether you choose the multi-trip policy, it depends on you. Of course, the more days you have, the more expensive the policy will be.
The insurance I received last March, for example, allows me to make an almost unlimited number of insured trips for a period of up to 35 days. It is very important to discuss this point with your broker.

Obviously, it is likely that the duration of your trip will exceed the maximum number of days that has been discussed with your insurer. In this case, you will only have to pay extra to extend the duration of your coverage!

Sometimes it’s better to take a smaller policy and pay extras as you go, rather than taking a longer initial package. Don’t forget to ask your advisor for more information on this and don’t hesitate to compare the prices of annual cover depending on the length of the trip and extensions.

3. Add cancellation/interruption and baggage insurance for even more protection

I asked my travel insurance broker if cancellation/interruption and baggage insurance was included with the annual multi-trip travel insurance policy, the answer is no. However, it is possible to include this type of insurance for a trip that you are not sure you will be able to get out of in time or that seems particularly risky.

In this case, it will be up to you to define the maximum amount that can be reimbursed. For example, if the price of the flight you booked is $450, you should choose an amount that is equivalent to that amount. This will be the amount that will be refunded to you in the event of a flight cancellation, if the reason is in line with one of those mentioned in the policy.

Annual Travel Insurance

4. Many benefits with the annual multi-trip policy

In summary, this policy is:

  • Economical, whether for your time or money if you travel several times a year;
  • Flexible, because you have the option to extend your package at any time during your trip;
  • Optional, if you choose a more economical annual plan for Canada only or if you decide to travel to other countries;
  • Enough, because you will no longer have to take out other travel insurance online for each trip;
  • Relaxing, you won’t have to ruin your holiday by calling your insurer every time;

Attractive, because the annual multi-trip policy also covers outdoor activities and amateur sports such as ziplining, which is very interesting for adventurers like me.

Thanks to the good advice of my broker, I have had the opportunity to try this policy for several months now and the least I can say is that I am very happy that I no longer have to worry about my emergency medical insurance policy for the rest of the year.

If you are still hesitating to choose your annual policy, apply online and maybe, like me, you will open your eyes!
